MODU designs for everyday life shaped by the environment and place, linking the city to the room.

Led by Rome Prize fellow Phu Hoang, MODU is a transdisciplinary studio working across architecture, urbanism, and interiors. Since 2012, our work connects architecture to its surroundings and interiors to nature, informed by climate and lived experience. We guide projects from concept through construction with clarity.

MODU is a certified Minority-Owned Business (MBE) in New York State and New York City. We work closely with clients and, when appropriate, draw on expertise beyond the built environment—including sociologists, technologists, ecologists, and artists—to inform integrated, research-driven design.

Studio //

Based in Brooklyn, our studio designs public, commercial, and residential projects, including homes that bridge domestic and urban life. We collaborate with leading cultural institutions—including the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, Design Museum Holon, and Creative Time—as well as public agencies. Our commercial partnerships include Frog Design, Arup, and Confindustria Ceramica.

MODU has received national and international recognition, including awards from the American Academy in Rome, the National Endowment for the Arts, the American Institute of Architects, the Architectural League of New York, and the New York State Council on the Arts. Our book, Field Guide to Indoor Urbanism, is part of the collection at the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum Library.
