Profile

Phu Hoang, AIA, FAAR

Phu Hoang is the Founding Principal of the transdisciplinary design studio MODU. A Vietnamese-born American architect, he has practiced in cross-cultural environments for more than 25 years in the US and abroad. Through design projects and interdisciplinary research, he leads MODU with a focus on the intersection of environmental and social outcomes. He is a recipient of the Rome Prize in Architecture from the American Academy in Rome and the Emerging Voices award from the Architectural League of New York. He co-authored, with Rachely Rotem, Field Guide to Indoor Urbanism, now part of the National Design Library collection at the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum.

He previously served as Head of the Architecture Section at the Knowlton School of The Ohio State University. He has taught at Columbia University, Harvard University, and the University of Pennsylvania. He holds a Master of Architecture from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Science from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Phu Hoang is a licensed architect in New York and the President of the Society of Fellows of the American Academy in Rome.
