Architecture, Urbanism, Interiors

Design that connects people.

Environmental and Social Fabric
Leverage the environment—especially its micro-climates—to shape extraordinary places.

MODU designs for a new sustainability—strengthening the environment while fostering the experiences of being between indoors and outdoors, city and room. This creates a sense of belonging: as neighbors, coworkers, and friends.

Led by Rome Prize Fellows Phu Hoang and Rachely Rotem, MODU is an interdisciplinary design studio creating architecture, urban spaces, and interiors. We design cultural projects, public spaces, commercial buildings, and urban homes. We are LEED accredited and a New York State minority-owned business (MWBE).

Based in Brooklyn, MODU works at the intersection of design, ecology, and data. We direct a think tank linking a diverse group of experts in culture, technology, and industry. Our research and collaborations involve working together with scientists, sociologists, technologists, and artists.

Our studio has worked for cultural institutions, including the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, Art Basel Miami Beach, Design Museum Holon, and Creative Time. We thrive on working for brands with a vision—like Frog Design, Duggal Visual Solutions, and Confindustria Ceramica— as well as for our inspiring private clients.

MODU is honored to be recognized by a number of domestic and international institutions, with awards from the American Academy in Rome, the National Endowment for the Arts, the American Institute of Architects, the Architectural League of New York, the New York State Council on the Arts, and the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation.
