Design that brings people together
Environmental and Social Fabric
Leverage the
environment—especially its micro-climates—to shape extraordinary places
MODU connects people with the environment
while also sustaining it.
Our people-centered design creates experiences
that bridge the indoors and outdoors, or the open and enclosed, fostering a
sense of belonging in the communities we serve.
Founded by Rome Prize Fellows Phu Hoang and Rachely Rotem, MODU is a transdisciplinary studio working at the interconnection of architecture, urbanism, and interior design. Since 2012, we have been designing climate-responsive spaces that engage with their surroundings, integrating architecture with the city and interiors with nature. By bringing together design, ecology, and data, we highlight the stories of communities—whether neighbors, friends, or family—that enrich their daily lives and shape our work.
Based in Brooklyn, New York, MODU is a certified
minority-owned business (MBE) in both New York State and City, and holds LEED
certification. We prioritize collaboration and organize think tanks that
include experts beyond the built environment, such as sociologists,
technologists, ecologists, and artists. This approach provides comprehensive
solutions for cultural institutions, commercial enterprises, public
organizations, and private clients.
